Trampled Down

Canonsburgup   -
“When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.”
1 Corinthians 15:37-38
Dear Friends,

I love it when God whispers in surprising places!

Last Friday I was out on an extended walk and I was listening to an “old” album from the David Crowder Band, when up popped a song I didn’t even remember…

Oh I’ve been pushed down into the ground
O how I’ve been trampled down
So many feet on top of me
I can’t help but sink, sink, sink

Oh I’ve been pushed down into the ground
Oh how I have been trampled down
Lord I put my trust in thee
You won’t turn your back on me

Oh I am a seed
Oh I am a seed
I’ve been pushed down into the ground
But I will rise up a tree

When you read the lyrics, it resembles a lament straight out of the Psalms.  But the music that accompanies it is so high-spirited that all I could do is smile.  And of course, it was exactly what I was preaching on Sunday!

Today is “Hump Day” – and maybe you’re feeling trampled down, burdened, dumped-on by burdens of your own or by others. Maybe people have taken out their frustrations on you, or your workload is mounting so high that you can’t imagine completing it, and pushed won into the ground and trampled down feel apt.

If so, keep reading:

Oh I can see it won’t be long
Till I break free from what I was
Your river of grace flows endlessly
You won’t turn your back on me

Oh I am a seed
Oh I am a seed
I’ve been pushed down into the ground
But I will rise up a tree

These words of David Crowder seem to paraphrase Paul’s words to the Corinthians so well.  And it’s both about our eternal future and our present reality.  Because God’s doing a work in us here and now.  Our heartache and pain, our burdens that drag us down, are not the sum total of our life.  Even though it might feel like that in the moment.

God’s in-breaking work is coming – in you, in your heart, in your body, in your mind, in your life.

Be encouraged!  And take a listen, because my mere words do not convey the beauty and the joy that this song has for you today!

Welcoming You to Grow in Jesus, one seed at a time!
