Hello from Honduras

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayer for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”  – Philippians 1:3-6

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Honduras!

I hope this note finds you well and on behalf of the Team, I want to thank you for all of your prayers for our travel and our time connecting and re-connecting with our sisters and brothers in Honduras.

Our team is made up of 3 couples – Tim & Judy Camus, Gregg & Monica Roeper, Greg & Marg Ronald, 3 sisters – Delaney, Kendall and Taylor Riedel, our Chair of Missions & Stewardship, Colleen Yarbrough, and myself.  This is the first time that the Camus’, Ronalds and Riedels have been to Honduras, so we’re excited to be sharing so much with them.  Maybe you might be a first-timer in coming years yourself!

Today, our first day after yesterday’s travel, we are scheduled for a visit to Nueva Esperanza (“New Hope”) in the morning and a visit to El Achiotal in the afternoon.  Both communities are participating in various levels of the Communities of Holistic Impact program.

Tomorrow and Friday we are scheduled to visit our friends in Lomas del Aguila (“Mountain of the Eagle”) where we will celebrate their construction and opening of their Community Center – and they’ve invited us to help paint it too!  This community was the first we ever partnered with through Heart to Honduras.

Saturday and Sunday we will head back to Neuva Esperanza for worship and a larger community tour and on Monday we will get to visit Pulhapanzak National Park, along with a coffee plantation and hopefully, dinner overlooking Lake Yohoa (outside of the people, one of my personal highlights from traveling to Honduras).

We continue to ask for your prayers for our safety – especially our health, as things tend to crop up on these trips – a small price to pay for these wonderful experiences… unless you’re the one paying for it.

I do want to let you know that the work that God is doing in and amongst these communities, despite what we might recognize as real hardships and poverty is tremendous.  While they experience economic poverty, we have a lot to learn from their gracious, encouraging, faithful perseverance.  They are rich in many ways that we are impoverished, and I am grateful for all that God does in us through these communities while we are here.  We will do our best to share in the coming weeks and months in the hopes that we can continue to grow in Christ – not just those who have traveled, but all of us in our church and community.

May we all be open to Christ’s work in our midst!

Welcoming You to Grow in Jesus,

Pastor Don
